How
to Use Jobless Warrior
We want to help you
to have a successful career!
It is critical to know how to execute an
effective job search—in fact, it’s the key to a
great career.
Our goal: To provide you with the personalized
skills and knowledge necessary to get a great
job, and to point you to additional resources
that can expedite your current job search
Please read through the instructions below
carefully, and then visit the Warriors section
of this website. The Warriors section is broken
down by type of volunteer and how you can
request support.
Please keep the following rules of engagement in
mind:
You are under no obligation to use volunteer
services or products.
Our volunteers are under no obligation to work
with you. They may already be working with a
number of other warriors or simply be unable to
assist due to other circumstances. If a
volunteer cannot work with you, simply return to
Jobless Warrior and ask to be connected with
another service provider.
All volunteers are required to provide you with
the minimum free service(s) as outlined on the
volunteer webpage. They may occasionally choose
to offer you additional free services at their
sole discretion and we strongly encourage this
of all.
If you opt to continue to work with your
volunteer after the free services have been
provided, the volunteer is required to offer you
a substantial discount for this continuing work.
You are under no obligation to continue to do
so. In fact, you may return to Jobless Warrior
to request another free volunteer provider.
You will be asked by the volunteer to prove that
you are a U.S. military veteran. Various forms
of documentation are acceptable (e.g., a scan or
fax of your Military Separation Document (DD
Form 214 or WD Form 53-55) or your Military ID,
active or expired). Do not provide any private
information on the documentation. Block-out
everything but your name and the military
identification information when you scan or fax
the document.
We recommend that you work with volunteers in
each of the categories that Jobless Warrior
lists. Each category represents an important
component of an effective job search.
Below is a brief description of how volunteers
can help and when you should use them. There is
no limit to the amount of help you can request
from Jobless Warrior.
Career Coaches
Consult with a Career Coach
early in the job search process. A Career Coach
can help a job seeker with an overall strategy,
communications, and tactics for a successful job
search.
Resume Writers
A resume is your first
impression to a potential employer. A
well-written document can greatly enhance your
chances in most job opportunities. Once you have
settled on a job hunt strategy, request a resume
writer immediately to help you put your best
foot forward with potential employers.
Recruiters
Recruiters know who is hiring
and what type of job candidate they are looking
for. The right ones have connections with
employers in your geography and in your
industry. They can get you interviews with
prospective employers and help you to prepare
for them. Recruiters are best approached after
you have a solid job strategy and a good resume.
Job Networking Groups
These groups have regular
meetings in which you can network and learn from
other job seekers. A good Job Networking Group
will provide resources, helpful hints, practice
speaking in front of people, news about local
job opportunities, and much more. They can
provide a certain level of support, motivation,
and camaraderie. You should attend a free
meeting or two early in your job hunt process.
Employers
These organizations have
expressed an interest in employing veterans.
They should be contacted after you polish your
job hunt strategies, resume, and interviewing
skills. Return here regularly to see updated
employer listings.
Other Services
Depending upon your
geography, these volunteers can offer you free
services or discounted products/services that
can complement your job search. These services
range from a hairstylist offering free haircuts
to even retail stores offering discounted suits
for interviewing. Find the services that you
need and contact the volunteer as indicated.
Check back regularly to see updated offerings!
Finally, keep in mind that our volunteers have
signed up with Jobless Warrior because they
truly want to help you. We are not offering a
"hand-out", but instead a "hand up," to get you
on the right path to the rewarding and
fulfilling career that you deserve. You have
earned this assistance through your service, and
we are proud to be able to help.
